Rethinking sustainability: architecture with impact, beyond design

desafíos de la sostenibilidad en arquitectura

How to take sustainability from theory to practice in the world of architecture? In an interview published by NAN Arquitectura, Javier Higuera, Director of Business Development at HCP Architecture & Engineering, shares his vision on the challenges of sustainability in architecture and how to face them from a technical, cost-effective and purposeful approach.

In the conversation, Javier highlights the need to broaden the concept of sustainability to also include economic and social criteria. ‘To talk only about environmental impact is to reduce the problem: we need a comprehensive and scalable approach,’ he says.

One of the most illustrative examples is the building designed by HCP for the European Commission in Seville, which generates twice the energy it consumes. A pioneering project not only in energy efficiency, but also in the creation of flexible, healthy working environments connected to the urban environment.

It also reflects on how technologies such as BIM, AI or parametric design are redefining the design and construction processes at HCP, improving efficiency without renouncing the human value and the vision of service that characterises the studio.

A must-read for those who believe that transforming cities is also a way of transforming the future.
