The year 2024 has been a key period for HCP Architecture & Engineering, marked by major advances in our growth and international expansion, global recognition and the development of strategic projects that reinforce our vision of transforming cities through architecture. In Metros2’s MIPIM special, our partner Javier Higuera Mata shared the balance of a year of achievements and the challenges that await us in 2025.
This 2024 has witnessed this evolution with the opening of a new office in Saudi Arabia, which joins our presence in Bahrain, consolidating our position in the Middle East, a key market with a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation.
But our expansion has not only been geographic, but also in terms of talent. This year, we have increased our team by 30%, adding experienced professionals and young architects with an innovative vision. We believe that the future of architecture is built with a combination of knowledge, creativity and technology, and this expansion allows us to continue promoting high-impact projects.
In addition, 2024 has brought us the satisfaction of being, for the second consecutive year, in Building Design’s prestigious WA100 ranking, which recognises the 100 most influential architecture firms in the world. This recognition is a reflection of the collective effort of our team and our ability to design sustainable, innovative and sustainable architectural solutions.
Our activity in 2024 has been marked by emblematic projects that reinforce our commitment to excellence and sustainability. One of the most outstanding is the design of the new headquarters of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Seville, in collaboration with the Danish studio BIG. This building will become a benchmark in energy efficiency, innovation and sustainability at European level, housing more than 400 researchers.
Another milestone this year was the development of almost 1,000 subsidised housing units (VPO) in Andalusia and Madrid. Designing affordable housing with high standards of quality and efficiency is a key commitment for us. Social architecture is a challenge we strongly believe in, and each of these projects allows us to improve people’s lives through well thought-out solutions tailored to their needs.
Looking ahead to 2025: innovation and diversification
In the coming year we are focused on continuing our growth and expansion in a sustainable manner, both in Spain and abroad. Our new office in Riyadh will be key to consolidating our presence in the Middle East, a region where architecture and urbanism are rapidly evolving with a focus on sustainability and efficiency.
In terms of project typologies, residential architecture continues to be our main pillar, but we are strengthening our presence in sectors such as hotels, urban planning and commercial spaces. A clear example of this is our participation in the first Banyan Tree in Spain, in collaboration with OBMI, a project that reflects our capacity to develop large-scale interventions of great architectural quality.
We have also increased our activity in student residences and flex-living buildings, growing segments that respond to new ways of living and sharing spaces.
Innovation will also be a key focus in 2025. The implementation of parametric architecture and the use of artificial intelligence in our processes will allow us to optimise designs, improve planning and offer even more efficient solutions adapted to each context.
Every project we develop at HCP is an opportunity to improve the urban environment and people’s quality of life. We are driven by the idea that architecture must respond to the needs of the present without compromising the future, and that is why we continue to focus on sustainable, efficient designs with a positive impact.
