Reflections on Housing, Urban Development and the Future of the Costa del Sol
At HCP Architecture & Engineering we recently took part in the La Opinión de Málaga Real Estate Forum, an event that brought together professionals and companies from across the sector. The forum focused on some of the key challenges facing Málaga and its metropolitan area, including housing, urban development, and infrastructure.
Our founding partner, Alejandro Pérez, participated in the panel discussion on architecture, marketing and high-value residential developments. During the session, he shared his perspective on the evolution of the residential market and the role of architecture in creating spaces that deliver value, identity and quality of life.
Housing, Land and Infrastructure
One of the main topics discussed during the forum was the need to increase the housing supply in response to growing demand across Málaga and its metropolitan area.
Throughout the different panel discussions, speakers highlighted the importance of promoting new urban developments. They also stressed the need to streamline land management processes and strengthen public-private collaboration to support the delivery of affordable housing.
In addition, several participants pointed to the importance of investing in transport, energy and public infrastructure. These investments are essential to support the province’s growth and meet the future needs of its municipalities.
New Models of Urban Development
The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the changes currently affecting the residential sector.
Topics discussed included construction industrialisation, the shortage of skilled labour and the evolution of housing models to meet new user demands.
One of the main conclusions was the important role that the metropolitan area can play in Málaga’s future development. Participants also agreed on the need to combine urban growth, sustainability and innovation in order to create more efficient and balanced cities.
Architecture and Quality as Drivers of Value
Alejandro Pérez took part in the panel dedicated to architecture and high-value residential developments. The discussion explored emerging trends in the real estate market and the role of architecture in creating spaces that enhance wellbeing and quality of life.
During his intervention, he highlighted the importance of understanding architecture as an experience connected to its context. He also defended the need to continue developing projects that generate long-term value for both people and their surroundings.
